Giveaway Wednesday Winner

Without further ado, I am delighted to share the name of the latest winner of Shea Yeleen’s Giveaway Wednesday contest. She answered the following question:

“If you could live anywhere in the world, domestically or internationally, and assist in making a progressive change, where would you live and why?”

The winner was Ndidi Amadi. She gave such a thoughtful response, and it was truly rewarding to hear about her philanthropic desires. She will be receiving one of Shea Yeleen’s nourishing shea butter products. Her response can be seen here.

“I would chose to live in haiti because i would want to take hope back to the country, which already has a beautiful culture. i would also want to take the gospel of jesus christ, because their is no better hope to give than the saviour of the world. i would take love because love is the only thing that has the ability to change lives. i would also take basic human necessities, such as water, food, clothes, etc, because people cannot receive hope and love when they are starving. i would chose haiti because i still believe in the beauty of haiti.”

Stay tuned for Shea Yeleen’s next contest. Don’t miss out on the chance to win a free prize! Be sure to check out our website to learn more about Shea Yeleen and our products.

Refined vs. Unrefined

Shea butter has been used for centuries by African men and women to promote healthy skin and hair. Over the past couple of decades, manufacturers of skin and hair care products in the United States have caught on to the many benefits it provides. But what many don’t know is that there are substantial differences and benefits in the types of shea butter that is avaliable on the marketplace.

There are two main categories of shea butter: refined and unrefined. Refined shea butter is typically odorless and white. The majority of shea butter distributed through mainstream channels distribute refined shea butter, which is processed in highly mechanized seed oil refineries in Europe and Asia. These refineries chemically extract the shea oil using dangerous petroleum by-products like hexane, a known carcinogen and classified as a hazardous substance by the Environmental Protection Agency. Refined shea butter is also subjected to extremely high heat in the refining process, which eliminates the naturally occurring essential fatty acids and proteins that are so beneficial for skin and hair care.

Unrefined shea butter is the shea butter produced exclusively by women in Africa. The women do not use harmaful chemicals, but employ a tradition, passed down from mother to daughter, to hand extract the high quality natural shea butter contained in the shea seeds. Unrefined shea butter retains all its natural vitamins, especially vitamin A and vitamin E. Consumers of natural unrefined shea butter reap the full spectrum of benefits it offers including moisturizing, skin cell renewal, UV protection, antioxidants, and wrinkle reducer. Although, unrefined shea butter has its own distinct aroma, it should never be off putting and if you smell a strong pungent odor you most likely have rancid shea butter. High quality unrefined shea butter has a soft nutty aroma that when applied to your skin disappears within minutes. Due to the wonderful qualites of unrefined shea butter, and its connection to economic empowerment of women in Africa, it is the best option for consumers.

Cooperative Support

What you may already know is that the pure natural shea butter that is purchased from Shea Yeleen comes from the hard work and labor of dynamic women in West Africa. What you may not know, is that the hard work and labor of these women is organized and performed within cooperatives.

A cooperative is a business organization owned and operated by a group of individuals for their mutual benefit. The International Cooperative Alliance defines a cooperative as “an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise “. A cooperative may also be defined as a business owned and controlled equally by the people who use its services or by the people who work there.

Cooperatives are important because they are dedicated to the values of openness, social responsibility and caring for others. Economic benefits are dispersed proportionally to each member’s level of participation in the cooperative. For example, members receive compensation by a dividend on sales or purchases, rather than according to capital invested. Cooperatives are distinguished from other forms of incorporation in that the interests of the community balance profit making or economic stability.
